1997-2004
The fifth generation known as C5 Corvette and rolled out in 1997, was a significant evolution in performance, engineering, and design. Built on a new hydroformed chassis, it offered improved rigidity, handling, and ride quality. It debuted the all-new LS1 5.7L V8 engine, producing 345 horsepower, later increased to 350 hp, delivering impressive acceleration and efficiency. A rear-mounted transaxle improved weight distribution, enhancing overall balance. The C5 was the first Corvette to feature a trunk in the coupe since 1962 and offered both coupe and convertible models, with a fixed-roof coupe added in 1999. In 2001, the high-performance Z06 returned, boasting 385 hp, later upgraded to 405 hp. Praised for its reliability, performance, and value, the C5 redefined the Corvette as a world-class sports car, both on the road and track.
